Data Recovery

HDD Control trenner Data Recovery

Data Recovery enables you to restore files which are already deleted. If you erase a file (and you don’t use the Data Destruction), it is just labeled as deleted by your operating system. But no data is really deleted from your hard drive or other media. Windows® simply makes one small change to the file’s entry in the directory table. The file is then no longer listed in the Windows® Explorer and its data can be overwritten by other files, but until this happens both the file name and its data are still there on your hard drive.

Data Recovery helps you to find and restore those deleted files.

Select Drive

A drop-down list of all hard drives, which Ashampoo HDD Control 2 found on your computer, appears. When you decided on a hard drive, just click on it (it will the be marked). Then click on Search.

Options

Under Options (on the left hand side of the menu) you can adjust the settings individually. This way the search process can be sped up and the results shown (which can be quite a lot) can be structured more clearly. Ashampoo HDD Control 2′s default setting for this is that all files with 0 bytes are not shown any more, because there is not contents left.

List of results

After the search a list of files, which Ashampoo HDD Control 2 has found on the computer, is displayed. These also include not only complete files, but also those of which only fragments were found.

Therefore Ashampoo HDD Control 2 does not only show the file’s name in the results list, but also the file extension, size and status. The status gives you a hint in which condition a file is. The rating scales ranges from Good (it should be possible to recover the file without problems) to Lost (there are only fragments left of the file). The better the status of the file, the more a complete recovery is possible. Sometime only fragments of files might be recovered, because the rest of the file has been for example already overwritten.
