Monitoring
The structure of the Monitor tab is similar to the other functions (see here), but it also offers some useful information for a better overview.
Hard Drive Status Information
The Hard Drive Status (red frame) allows a quick view at the condition of the hard drive. The SMART values are summarized and evaluated in a short, but significant text.
The area above (yellow frame) represents one of the most sophisticated developments in Ashampoo HDD Control 2. Using a special algorithm, the SMART data that have been read is weighted, combined, recalculated and displayed as meaningful percentages. Health and performance displays an overview of the status and performance of your hard drive. Together with Hard drive status (see above), the monitoring feature provides you with a clear-cut overview of important parameters. The temperature of your hard drive is also included in this concise information overview.
Additional Information
The additional Information tab (blue frame) also displays some technical details that can be essential for troubleshooting. While the firmware version (version of software embedded on the hard drive) may be self-explanatory, the buffer size may require some additional explanation. This refers to the size of a cache where files can be swapped or stored temporarily. This cache serves as a buffer between the hard drive(s) and RAM. Files that are being used frequently can be stored here and thus accessed more quickly. Newly allocated sectors specifies the number of sectors that have been ‘blocked’ due to problems and which have been allocated to new sectors. “Attributes” describes the number of SMART values that have been read and “Lowest status” shows the poorest health status (see Health) that has been determined until now by Ashampoo HDD Control 2.
Management
The Management area (green frame) shows important settings and results. It gives information on the settings of the Automatic Acoustic Management and the Advanced Power Management as well as on the result of the last benchmark test. |
